Theatre: Made of Nowhere

Written and performed by playwright, poet and musician David Jarman, and directed by Ruby Clarke, Made of Nowhere is inspired by events and people encountered while walking the Coast to Coast route from West Cumbria to the North East.

After scraping together his last few pounds Jarman packs a borrowed tent into an old rucksack and hitches a lift north to the start of the coast to coast walking route. This unofficial footpath is 182 miles long and runs from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay.

As he makes his way from one side of the island to the other he wrangles with strangers, friends and versions of himself he thought he’d left behind. Journeying across the landscape they all inhabit, he navigates between the past and the present, between new ground and old mistakes, between the forgotten and the found.

Inspired by motorways and sweeping moors, this is a solo show about identity, scraping by, and learning how to let go and move on. A captivating blend of poetry, music, story and song. All live. All lived.
