Music: English Touring Opera presents Bach's St Matthew Passion

English Touring Opera presents the third in the company's stagings of Bach's masterpieces. This will be the Passion according to St Matthew - easily Bach's most dramatic work - in a way you've never seen it.

The music tells the story of a trial, death by crucifixion, and transformation, told by witnesses whose lives have been transformed.

ETO's soloists will perform alongside critically acclaimed period instrument orchestra the Old Street Band and local choirs. Conductor Jonathan Peter Kenny leads the performance, which will involve a simple, heartfelt staging.

As part of Rosehill on the Road, this fascinating production will take place in the impressive setting of St John's Church, Workington. Participating local choirs include Cockermouth Harmonic Society, Wigton Choral Society, the University of Cumbria and Cockermouth School.

This follows the success in 2016 of St John Passion, again with Rosehill on the Road in partnership with ETO.

Conductor: Jonathan Peter Kenny
Sung in German and English, with surtitles
