Music: Amanda Roocroft & Joseph Middleton
Amanda Roocroft has secured a reputation as one of Britain’s most exciting singers. Since graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music she has appeared with leading international orchestras, opera companies, festivals and on concert stages with conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Zubin Mehta, Sir Andrew Davis, Sir Charles Mackerras, Valery Gergiev and Bernard Haitink among many others.
Joseph Middleton enjoys a busy and varied career as a chamber musician and accompanist having studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music on an EMI Scholarship. He has given recitals with internationally established singers including Sir Thomas Allen, Dame Felicity Lott, Ann Murray, Joan Rodgers and Mark Padmore.
Together they will perform a Liederspeil at Rosehill, their own collection of songs charting the end of a love affair of which Joseph Middleton says:
...it occurred to us that we could tell a story through songs, in the same way that one goes to the theatre to watch and hear a story being told through opera. Rather than presenting a number of different characters in one evening... we thought we could explore one protagonist’s emotional journey... with songs by Britten, Schumann, Boulanger, Brahms, Ireland, Strauss, Rachmaninov, Grieg, Copland and Kurt Weill among others.
...and every solo performance, led by Roocroft...is etched with the finest dramatic precision.
